Canto Technologies was launched in 2003 to support computing needs in Manchester and Cheshire.
The company is managed by Duncan Sommerville who has many years experience in the IT industry. After graduating from Coventry University with an honours degree in Software Engineering in 1996, Duncan moved to London and took a graduate position with an international software house who specialised in providing software to the financial sector. This role required him to be seconded to New York for twelve months, working on-site for several well-known financial institutions. Duncan also developed a training role within the company which led him to visit India and Tokyo providing internal and external training courses.
Upon returning to the UK, Duncan moved to Nottingham and took a senior software development role within a company specialising in the provision of software to support pharmaceutical clinical trials. This role necessitated a three month spell in the Chicago office.
Due to his wife’s relocation to Manchester in 2003 Duncan decided it was time to branch out on his own and founded Canto Technologies, whose aim is to provide impartial, affordable and local computer services to business and home users.
Duncan is a Member of the British Computing Society, the industry body for IT professionals. He is also a Chartered IT Professional and is currently working towards his MSc - in fact you can participate in his research by completing the following anonymous questionnarie:

Closer to home he is an active member of the Altrincham and Sale Chamber of Commerce.
Away from work, Duncan enjoys travelling and good food. He is also an experienced scuba diver, but presently has very little time for extracurricular activities due to a new addition to the Sommerville family!
